The Film Diary

When I just don't have the time to write a review, check here.  My screening log, of sorts.  Oh, and the ratings here might differ a star or two once I get down to writing a full review.  Enjoy!

(P.S.- My bad for missing all of October.  Things were a little crazy-- now that they're calming down again, I'll keep this up again.  I promise.  No, really.)

November 2003

The Matrix Revolutions (2003) *1/2-  Holy crap.  WHAT a DUD.  Look for my full complaint-- erm, review--- soon.

The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers: Extended Edition (2003) ****-  The extended cut of "Fellowship" made some improvements on the original, but the improvements this cut of "The Two Towers" makes over the original are huge.  Editing problems are smoothed out, characters become much more fully developed, and the journey feels that much more epic.  I can't remember the last time I anticipated a film as much as I now anticipate Return of the King.

The Station Agent (2003) ***1/2-  Absolutely beautifully crafted in every way.  Many of the performances, especially from Peter Dinklage and Patricia Clarkson, are among the year's best.  Look for a full review coming soon.

Hedwig and the Angry Inch (2001) **** (? Viewing)-  Contrary to popular belief, this has very little in common with the previous movie I mentioned.  This is an absolutely beautiful movie, based on an absolutely beautiful play.  The Origin of Love, which has since my first viewing become my favorite song, is one of those few epic songs that could possibly move you to tears.  There's also a lot of hidden humor that I didn't catch until multiple viewings... although this reccomendation comes from a Hedhead to whom Hedwig is one of their favorite movies, Hedwig is a necessity for anyone willing to watch.  And please, be willing... its well worth it.  My full review...

The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975) ****, in its own special way (? Viewing)-  A must for, well... pretty much anybody.  This is the midnite movie, and the fact that I saw this on Halloween makes it all the better.  Find yourself the time to go and revel in some pure decadence.
